Plañitas
This is an alternative to Carnitas. It takes under 20 minutes to make and tastes legit.
You’ll need:
1 can banana blossom
Remove the flowers from the can, drain the water and squeeze out the remaining water from the flowers, don’t worry about breaking them apart. Break them into bite-sized pieces.
Then add:
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
Juice of 1 lime or vinegar
1 tsp miso paste
1 tsp chipotle flakes or chipotle paste (optional)
2 garlic cloves chopped
Mix with the banana blossom and leave to marinate for at least 30 minutes. Then add:
6 tbsp corn starch or tapioca starch
Mix all together until they’re mostly white on the outside. Fry until very crispy, and serve!
